Knee Injury

Common types of knee injuries
  1. Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear: This injury occurs when the ACL, one of the four main ligaments that stabilize the knee joint, is torn. It is often caused by sudden twisting or changing direction, as can occur in sports like basketball, football, and soccer.
  2. Meniscus tear: The meniscus is a C-shaped piece of cartilage in the knee joint that helps to cushion and stabilize the joint. A tear in the meniscus can occur due to sudden twisting or overuse, and may also occur as a result of aging or degeneration.
  3. Patellar tendinitis: Also known as jumper's knee, this injury is caused by inflammation or irritation of the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shin bone. It is often caused by overuse, such as from jumping or running, and can lead to pain and tenderness in the front of the knee.
  4. Patellofemoral pain syndrome: This is a common cause of knee pain in athletes, particularly runners and cyclists. It occurs when the kneecap (patella) rubs against the femur bone, causing pain and discomfort.
  5. IT band syndrome: The iliotibial (IT) band is a thick band of tissue that runs from the hip down to the knee. When this band becomes tight or inflamed, it can cause pain on the outer side of the knee, particularly in runners and cyclists.
  6. Knee osteoarthritis: This is a degenerative joint disease that can cause pain, stiffness, and swelling in the knee joint. It is caused by wear and tear on the joint over time, and is more common in older adults.
  7. Knee sprain: A knee sprain occurs when one or more of the ligaments in the knee is stretched or torn. It is often caused by sudden twisting or impact, and can result in pain, swelling, and instability in the knee joint.
